The backlink strategy hiding in plain sight

Also: Be more negative

Welcome back to Marketing Qualified! Here’s what we’re talking about this week:

  • The backlink strategy hiding in plain sight. Find who to write for and what to write about without ever leaving Google.

  • Be more negative. Make them understand the pain.

Marketers love talking about “authority.”

Then ignore the easiest way to get it.

Type this into Google:

[your industry] intitle:"write for us"

That one search shows sites in your niche that accept guest articles.

It’s basically a list of people begging you to build backlinks.

If you need ideas about what content to pitch them, type this:

site:reddit․com OR site:quora․com [your industry] "how do I" OR "why does"

It surfaces the real questions people ask before they ever search for your product.

Create content around these.

Between those two searches, you can find who to pitch and what to write.

All without leaving Google.

📰  In the news this week.

👍  Employee advocacy is more important than ever.

🌐 OpenAI launched a web browser called ChatGPT Atlas.

🙅  Meta continues to miss the mark with new app additions.

👎 Be more negative.

Negativity sells. Use it in your marketing.

Don’t exclusively focus on the ‘benefits’ of your product. Tell people the bad things that will happen if they don't use your product.

People are more motivated to avoid pain than chase gain.

That’s why subject lines like “Stop wasting ad spend” or “Your pipeline is leaking” consistently outperform ones like “Unlock your growth potential.”

Stay away from cringey clickbait. Be subtle.

But don’t be afraid of a negative angle.

😂 Marketing meme of the week.
